Olof Mellberg will always love Aston Villa, and insists that he remains fully committed to Aston Villa’s push for a European place.
Even though Olof Mellberg has signed a pre-contract agreement on Tuesday that binds him to a move to Juventus at the end of this premier league campaign, he has declared his intentions to help Aston Villa reach a top 6 finish.
“The club has a great future,” he told Villa’s official website. “That’s why it’s important to start by securing a European place this season.”
“There’s plenty of talented young players and several experienced ones too.”
“The club will always have a place in my heart, I have had my best football years here. I have enjoyed my football the most at Villa.”
Stating that he always planned to leave Villa for Juventus at the end of the season, Mellberg insisted that he never intended to leave during the current transfer window, further implying his love for the claret and blue of the West Midlands.
“It was always going to happen at the end of the season,” he added. “They have had some injury problems and were trying to get me over this month. But now we have found a solution that suits everyone. Now I can focus on finishing well here.”
Villa fans will be sad to see Mellberg leave after seven fantastic seasons with the club.
