The 22 year old defender and hero of the Villa Blues derby in 05-06 at Villa Park has signed a three-and-a-half year contract with Bolton Wanderers. Cahill’s stunning finish in front of the Holte End against arch rivals Birmingham City will be long remembered as the goal that sunk the blues and ensured Villa’s safety in that campaign.
Bolton manager Gary Megson believes £5 million signing Cahill will make a big name for himself at the Rebok.
“He is a player I have admired for a long time. Gary is very talented and at 22 years of age has a very, very bright future ahead of him. It is fantastic news that he has agreed to join Bolton Wanderers.”
After having offers accepted from both Bolton and Birmingham City, Cahill decided a clean break from the West Midlands was in order.
He said: “It is the right move for me to come to Bolton.
“I had a look around their set-up and met with the manager and chairman, and I was impressed with what I saw and heard.”
