Villa sign Wayne Routledge

avfc.co.uk have stated that 23 year old Wayne Routledge has completed his move to Aston Villa after passing a medical and agreeing terms.

Routledge burst onto the English scene as an exciting right winger for Crystal Palace at the age of 17 in 2002. The former England Under-21 player had limited chances to impress with former club Spurs, where he was unable to compete with Aaron Lennon for his favoured position on the right wing.

Routledge seems over the moon with his switch from eleventh placed Tottenham to Villa Park.

“This is a dream move for me and a chance to get my career back on track,” he said.

“I am ecstatic. I can’t wait to start my Aston Villa career,” Routledge told Villa’s website. “It is a massive club and Martin O’Neill is a fantastic manager and he has done great things here already.”

“I am honoured. I just want to prove myself now. It is a forward step for me. When I heard about Villa’s interest, there was only one club I wanted to sign for.”

“The training ground is an amazing place. I have been shown around – it’s remarkable. It’s exciting times for the club. Villa Park is a massive stadium, with great fans and superb atmosphere. I can’t wait to play there again.”

“Everyone has seen how well Villa have done this season. Martin has signed some good players in his time here and he has bought the best out of his team. I hope he can do that with me.”

The move is expected to have only cost Villa around £1.5 million, and if MON can bring the most out of Routledge as he has done with his other youngsters’ it should turn out to be a good bit of business.
